2007 Organizing Campaign Special Drawing Winners Announced
July 13, 2007
More than a dozen new APWU members are finding out that it really does pay to join the union.
Organization Department Director Frank A. Romero announced today the winners of a special drawing that awarded prizes to a sampling of the thousands of new members who have joined the APWU so far this year — and to the organizers who enrolled them — as part of the union’s 2007 Help Us, Help You! and Women’s Organizing campaigns.
Grand Prizes can be claimed by APWU Greater Kansas City Metro Area Local members Kimberley McKinley, who joined the union earlier this year, and Francine Bellard, who persuaded McKinley to join. Each will receive a trip for two to any destination in the continental U.S., including round-trip air fare, two days and two nights of hotel accommodations, and $200 to spend.
Second Place winners, who will each receive $100, are Yvonne Mosley (new member) and Julius Donaldson (organizer), who belong to the Nation’s Capital Southern MD Area Local; Matthew Kendall (new member) and Richard Olson (organizer), from the Cleveland Area Local; Kim A. Ford (new member) and Alvin E. Curtis (organizer), from the Fort Worth Area Local; Judith Flores (new member) and Robin A. Harmon (organizer), from the Baltimore Francis “Stu” Filbey Area Local; and Jane E. Thompson, a new member of the Iowa Postal Workers Union.
Third Place winners will each receive $50. They are Hazel Lockley (new member) and Sherrice Wilfong (organizer), of the Baltimore (MD) Francis “Stu” Filbey Area Local; David W. Devero (new member) and Marie C. McElfish (organizer), of the Greater Kansas City (MO) Metro Area Local; James S. Phillips (new member) and Vincent Avila (organizer), of the Bakersfield (CA) Area Local; Randa McClung (new member), of the Augusta (GA) Area Local; Sylvia Bond (new member), of the Macon (GA) Area Local; Katherine Wilcox (new member), of the 480-481 (MI) Area Local; Mumtaz H. Ibrahim (new member), of the Dallas Area Local; Caryn Kerley (new member), of the 604-605 (IL) Area Local; Jackie C. Sieg (new member), of the Texas Postal Workers Union; and Gloria Williams (new member), of the Augusta (GA) Area Local.
The drawings took place at APWU headquarters in Washington, DC. All winners can thank the lucky touch of APWU Executive Vice President, who drew their entry cards. In addition to this announcement, all winners and their local presidents will receive letters notifying them about the prizes won.
A Second Chance to Win
All members who join this year but did not win a prize in the special drawing will have a second chance to win as part of union’s 2007 organizing drive, Romero said. A drawing to select winners in the year-long 2007 campaign will be held in early 2008.
