Best Organized & Best COPA Locals In the APWU
August 30, 2016
From Northeast Region Coordinator John Dirzius:
I hope everyone made it back home safe from the National Convention. It was great seeing all of you and participating in our union’s most important union meeting. As I have often stated and even from the podium at the Convention - the Northeast Region leads the way in fighting important issues – thinking outside the box to enforce our contract – in providing our members the very best in representation – and in building a better and stronger APWU. Just take a look at who was at the microphones speaking out and on our many resolutions. I could not have been prouder and rest assure that the entire APWU takes note of our collective solidarity in our Region.
I have attached for your review a document provided at the Convention listing the ‘Best of the Organized Locals’ in the APWU. This is just another example of what we do well in the Northeast Region. Let my highlight and congratulate the ‘Top 3 Locals' in each category size as being the best: Boston Metro Area Local, Long Island Area Local, Greater CT Area Local, Red Bank Area Local, Lynn, MA Local, and the Rhode Island Postal Workers.
And if you look at the other categories you will see the vast number of highly organized locals in the Northeast Region…Leading the Way! Congratulations to all on a job well done! APWU is stronger as a result of your organizing efforts!
Best COPA Locals In The APWU
On behalf of the Northeast Region it is with great pride that I take this opportunity to recognize and congratulate APWU’s top COPA contributors recently recognized at our 2016 National Convention.
What an honor: two of the top three individual contributors within the entire APWU are from the Northeast Region. I am honored to call both my friends as well as being great trade union brothers.
Special recognition to the second highest COPA contributor in APWU goes to Bernie Timmerman, Clerk Craft National Business Agent, New York Region. At the last few Conventions, Bernie gets his 'due recognition' as one of the top individual COPA contributors. Well done Bernie.
This year joining Bernie is the third highest COPA contributor in APWU and that honor goes to the MVS Director of Boston Metro Area Local, Bill Weaver. Well done Bill. Outstanding job!
Now to the top COPA Locals…It is with great personal pride that the top APWU Local in the nation for COPA contributions, for a fourth year, is my home local - Greater CT Area Local - Bob Johnson, president. Congratulations GCAL and special thanks to my good friend Bob for his continued leadership in making sure his members fully understanding the importance of contributing to APWU - COPA! Well done Bob.
But there is more…the third best COPA Local (1,000+members) is Boston Metro Area Local, Scott Hoffman, president. Congratulations Boston Metro and special thanks and recognition to Scott for his leadership in making sure his members fully understanding the importance of contributing to APWU - COPA! Well done Scott.
And finally also in the best of COPA Locals (500-999 members) is South Shore, MA Area Local, Ross Baker, president. Congratulations South Shore and thanks to Ross for his leadership in making sure his members strongly support APWU - COPA! Well done Ross for a job well done.
APWU Locals throughout the Northeast Region continue to respond to the union’s call to action to raise COPA funds to make certain that we elected public officials that strongly support APWU's collective goals as well as maintaining America’s Postal Service. Thank you to all our local leaders and every member who contributes to COPA. Thank you for your collective efforts to build a viable COPA fund. Your hard work makes a real difference. When workers and labor unions take collective action, politicians take note.
You make us very proud! Congratulations to all!
