September 14, 2009
Among the highlights of the AFL-CIO convention that began Sept. 12 in Pittsburgh will be an appearance by President Obama. All of the proceedings — speeches, resolution discussions, debates, and officer elections — can be followed via streaming live video.
Federation President John Sweeney gave the keynote address on the first day of the 26th biennial convention, and Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis delivered a speech early on Sept. 14. Obama will speak to the gathering in the afternoon on Sept. 15, and new officers will be nominated on Sept. 16. The convention concludes Sept. 17.
The proceedings also can be linked to through the convention Web site, and union members also can follow the convention on the AFL-CIO's Twitter page, which will provide updates such as schedule changes.
