President Burrus to Speak At Postal Strike Anniversary Program

Union President William Burrus will speak at a program commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Great Postal Strike of 1970 at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum on March 20, and is encouraging interested APWU members to attend.
Burrus will be joined by Vincent R. Sombrotto, president emeritus of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), in evaluating the significance of the strike and the changes it sparked in the lives of postal workers, politics, and the nation’s mail service. The program also will feature a question-and-answer session about the impact of the strike and its relevance today.
The event is free and open to the public. Members of the APWU and other postal unions are especially invited to attend the discussion, as well as a coffee reception after the program.
The program will take place on Saturday, March 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum’s Discovery Center in Washington, D.C. APWU members who are unable to attend may view the event live online at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/national-postal-museum, starting at 1 p.m.
