Support Good Jobs – Buy Union
August 27, 2007
Union Label Week 2007 begins on Labor Day, Sept. 3 and runs through Friday, Sept. 8. The message this year is: “Support Good Jobs — Buy Union.”
During Union Label Week the labor movement makes a special effort to create a better understanding of how unions and union members contribute to America’s prosperity and security:
- Building roads, offices, home and schools and the things that go into them
- Administering and operating transportation systems
- Delivering vital services — from education to communications, from public safety to health services, from entertainment to public administration
Simply put, union jobs add value to America’s communities.
“The union label signifies quality goods and services,” said APWU President William Burrus. “It also means the workers who make the products we buy or services we select earn decent wages and benefits are treated fairly their employers.”
“I urge APWU members to always look for the union label,” he added, “and to observe Union Label Week by reminding their friends, family and coworkers to ‘Buy Union’ too.”
Union Label Week is coordinated by the AFL-CIO’s Union Label and Service Trades Department, a nearly century-old effort to promote union-made products and services, especially those products and services identified by a union label.
